11 Gifts Don’t Cost a Penny for You to Give
While we aren’t necessarily talking about presents under the tree or at a birthday party, we think there are plenty of opportunities to give away free “gifts” on the day-to-day. And while we don’t think these should necessarily be replacements for important occasions like birthdays and anniversaries, here are just some ideas of gifts that don’t cost a penny you can give on a regular basis.
Kindness. When’s the last time you went out of your way to intentionally be kind to someone else outside of your family and friends? Holding a door, thanking someone, or even just a smile can go a long way to brighten another person’s day.
Listening ear. When you know someone is going through a tough time, be the listener they need. You don’t need to have a ton of advice. In fact, sometimes it’s better to just hold back your thoughts and let them have room to discuss what’s going on.
Encouragement. Once you’ve offered a listening ear to your friend or loved one, perhaps you can offer them a piece of encouragement. This doesn’t have to cost anything, just a well-spoken word at the right moment.
Presence. Whether near or far, reassuring someone that you are there for them, that you are present and want to be involved in their life is a rare and worthwhile gift.
Time. Though this gift is free, it’s absolutely invaluable, because once it’s gone, you can’t get it back. Giving another person your time is a beautiful way to rekindle old friendships and ignite new ones.
Attention. When you’re with another person, you can bestow upon them the gift of your undivided attention. In a world that is constantly competing for our attention, this is a gift that is meaningful and helpful for all involved.
Knowledge. Your experience and knowledge is sometimes the most valuable possession you own. You can share it freely with others in order to enrich their lives as well.
Memories. Instead of big, extravagant gifts, perhaps opt instead for memories. Create lasting impressions with your spouse and kids by taking them away and intentionally making a memory that will last a lifetime.
Gratitude. When you receive something from another person, oftentimes the best gift in return is genuine gratitude. Show others that they are important by expressing your appreciation regularly.
Help. If you know someone who is overwhelmed, gift them a pair of helping hands. Cook them dinner or watch their kids. Help tidy the house or run errands. Lightening someone else’s load is a meaningful gift that anyone would appreciate.
Fun. When all else fails, there’s always the gift of fun. Give the gift of laughter and merriment to those around you. After all, it’s the gift that keeps on giving, or so they say.
See! There are so many gifts that don’t cost a penny we can give our loved ones! All you have to do is look for opportunities to gift these things to those you love (and even strangers)! Happy gift giving!
