How B12 Boosts Your Body's Health

<![CDATA[How B12 boosts your body’s health

In today’s world of processed food and synthetic medicine, it can be difficult to get enough vitamin B12 from food alone. And that is a problem, whether we realize it or not. It’s a valuable little vitamin, good for converting carbs into glucose and promoting the production of energy to fight fatigue. It is also essential for regulating our nervous system, fighting off depression and the effects of stress, and helping our digestive system. Sure, on the cosmetic side of things, it helps our skin, hair and nails appear thick and healthy, and is important for the renewal of our skin cells. But perhaps most importantly, B12 is important in our body’s natural defense of many health issues.

No question about it, we need to get some B12 in our diets. To get more B12, the best way to go is to find it in foods that you would normally eat anyway. If you are an unabashed meat eater, fear not! B12 is found in an impressive array of meats, whether four-legged or crustacean. First, we’ll get everyone’s least favorite out of the way first: liver. Yes, liver—it may be a bitter, rough cut of meat, but it is one of the single best sources of B12. But after that, it gets much more pleasurable, from sirloin steak to clams, oysters, crab, salmon or trout. Chicken breast and turkey are other lean sources to try. And if you’re vegetarian, don’t worry—there is still plenty to be found in yogurt, milk or eggs, if your diet allows.

As for our vegan friends or those with food allergies and sensitivities, your diets alone may not provide beneficial amounts of B12, so supplements are a good way to go. Beware of the lure of added B12 in energy drinks, as the sheer amount of sugar and harmful levels of caffeine contained within simply isn’t worth it.

So if you want to maintain a healthy heart and keen memory, empower your immune defenses and enjoy lustrous hair, skin and nails, then adding a high-quality B12 supplement to your daily regimen is just the thing.
